The short answer: Picture in Picture lets a video float in a corner while you text, browse or check a map. For YouTube on iPhone, it works reliably in the HUSH Player in Safari.
Why YouTube's Picture in Picture is hit or miss
In the YouTube app, Picture in Picture depends on your country and on whether you pay for YouTube Premium. On YouTube's website, YouTube's own player often doesn't offer it at all. HUSH swaps in Apple's video player, which supports Picture in Picture the way your iPhone intends.
Step by step
- Make sure Picture in Picture is on: Settings › General › Picture in Picture › Start PiP Automatically.
- With HUSH switched on, open a YouTube video in Safari or the HUSH browser.
- Tap the Picture in Picture button in the HUSH Player, or just swipe up to go home while it plays.
- Drag the floating video to any corner, pinch to resize, or swipe it to the edge to tuck it away.
Tips
- Tap the floating video once to show controls: play, pause, skip, and the button to jump back to full screen.
- Pinch to make it bigger or smaller.
- Swipe it off the side of the screen to hide it while it keeps playing. Tap the tab to bring it back.
- On iPad, it works the same way, over any app.
Ads, trackers, cookie pop-ups and YouTube ads, gone. Set up in 20 seconds on iPhone and iPad.
